Orwell Cogswell Free Public Library Minutes

September 6, 2018

The meeting was called to order by Lou Anne Stone at 6:35 PM

Treasurer’s Report

Bill Potter reported the library is doing well financially and is poised to meet its financial goals this year.

Library Director’s Report

Elizabeth reported that there was a total of 155 visitors in July and 163 in August. There were 272 circulation transactions in July and 295 in August.

The library was closed on July 4th for the holiday, then forced to close early one day due to a power outage.

Gelli Printing on July 12th was funded by a grant from the Salmon River Fine Arts Center. It was attended by 5 people.

Lauren Whipple is returned on July 25th and August 22nd for the Harvest of the Month club both were thoroughly enjoyed.

The end of summer reading rock painting event on July 28th was well attended by 10 individuals.

Elizabeth informed the board of an $355.15 credit on our Spectrum bill from ERate.  

Elizabeth plans to attend two NCLS meetings/trainings on September 13th and 17th.  

Elizabeth notified the board of a need to close the library on September 12-13th because of the Primary Elections.

Committee Reports

Unfinished Business

·Collection Development Policy has been approved by the board with the minor change of adding local history to the objectives section.

  • Craft Show- Scheduled for October 12-13th. The venue will be the Orwell Fire Hall. The board will supply lunch to be sold on Friday and the Auxiliary will provide lunch on Saturday. The library will pay to advertise on the Kallet Theater Marquette on October 11-12th. Flyers are made and being disbursed in the community. Twenty-five letters have been sent to crafters and approximately half have responded favorably.
  • The NCLS annual meeting will be attended by Elizabeth and Lou Anne
  • The board has agreed that the library will not fund the Christmas dinner and the board will continue to pay for their own meals as was done in previous years.

New Business

  • October’s meeting is moved to October 4th due to the craft show fund raiser the following week.
  • The board approved the donation of 200 photocopies to the Northern Oswego County LEAH group.
  • The Minimum Standard Worksheet was distributed to the board with instructions to read over and discuss at a later time.
  • The board is considering going onto the school ballot in 2019 for more funding.

 

Executive Session

Each trustee evaluated Elizabeth Gondek’s performance as library director. Due to her stellar performance the board has requested a $0.25 per hour raise effective immediately. The motion to approve this raise was made by Brandy Potter and seconded by Deanna Barber and was unanimously approved by the board of trustees.

Library Director’s Report

Committee Reports

  • Library visits: 150, Circulation: 233, E-media checkouts: 21
  • It is recommended that Cogswell Free Library be put on the next year’s tax ballot for $3000-$5000
  • Elizabeth may need some time off for surgery in the near future. She will let the board know if and when that is to a happen.
  • Most of the weeding grant is spent.
  • If funding is secured Tug Hill Tomorrow Land will offer programs to the library in 2019.
  • Lauren Whipple and Karen Adams may do some programs for the library in the near future.

  • Board agrees to the purchase of bereavement flowers for Bill Potter.

September report submitted. Bill Potter was absent, no comments. Motion to accept report: Paula Steele, seconded: Korleen Steele

Library Director’s Report

  • Craft show fundraiser: $433.00
  • Lauren Whipple leading Harvest of the Month Club on Nov. 10, 2018
  • Low attendance from public at Slime Party, October 27th.
  • Ideas for a December program in works.
  • Amy subbing for 2 dates mid-November while Elizabeth attends NCLS workshops.

Unfinished Business

  • Sexual Harassment Policy must be adopted by end of year with training administered to entire board by 10/09/19. A motion to adopt the current policy given by Brandy Potter, seconded by Paula Steele. Two board members wanted to review it before giving their approval.
  • The board agreed to be placed on the next tax ballot for $4000. Elizabeth is inquiring as to the next steps that are needed.

New Business

  • All present members signed oath of offices. They will resign oaths at January meeting.
  • Closed dates were approved by board. Motion to accept: Paula Steele, all approved.
  • The Folks group would like to give a gift to the library and is looking for needs. Elizabeth will think on it and let them know of anything.

Scheduled for December 12, 2018 during the board’s annual Christmas party.
